Causes of OBESITY

Let’s have a look at the causes of OBESITY:

    • Metabolic Illnesses:

      Abnormal chemical reactions can be caused by illnesses in the body, which will disrupt the normal metabolic process.  These include:

      • Underactive thyroid, whereby the thyroid gland doesn’t produce enough thyroid hormones thus slowing down the body’s metabolism.
      • Insulin resistance is a physiological condition in which cells fail to respond to the insulin hormone, resulting in increased blood sugar levels.  The excess sugar is stored as glycogen and triglycerides.
  • Inactive Lifestyle:

People who are physically inactive during the day are more likely to be obese, because they don’t burn the calories taken in through food and drinks.  People exert fewer physical demands at work and/or at home, because of modern technology and convenience.  30 minutes exercise/day is important for a healthy lifestyle.

  • Calorie Loaded Meals:

Increased access to convenience meals and fast foods, and high paced lifestyles results in less preparation time for healthy meals.
